Rocket Racing LeagueŽ PITS AIR FORCE VS. NAVY AVIATORS WITH HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT OF BRIDENSTINE TEAM
In a highly anticipated move following the debut of its first independent race team, the Rocket Racing LeagueŽ (RRL) unveiled its second, the Bridenstine Rocket Racing Team, on September 18, 2006 at the Reno National Championship Air Races and Air Show. The team is founded by Navy Lt. James Bridenstine, an E-2C and F-18C pilot, and his wife Michelle.
"Given the air force credentials of our first team, Leading Edge, and the navy aviation experience of this second team under Jim Bridenstine, we expect a good-natured competition as the Rocket Racing LeagueŽ prepares for its official launch in late 2007," stated RRL President and CEO Granger Whitelaw. "I look forward to working with Jim, Michelle and the entire Bridenstine team and appreciate their commitment to this young, exciting league."
Serving as the primary pilot and president of Bridenstine Rocket Racing Team, Lt. James Bridenstine has been a naval aviator for nine years, training as an E-2C pilot and recently transitioning to the F-18C as a weapons and tactics instructor. He served with distinction in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Southern Watch in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also flew missions in Operation Noble Eagle immediately after September 11, 2001. Bridenstine holds degrees in business administration, economics and psychology from Rice University.
"Flying exhilarating manned rockets, competitive races in the sky, and the opportunity to advance rocket science and space technology inspired me to take the helm of the Bridenstine Rocket Racing Team and fly the Mark-1 X-Racer," explains James Bridenstine. "It is an honor to be selected as the second team within the Rocket Racing LeagueŽ."
Assisting in the training for Bridenstine and as the team's secondary pilot is Lt. Justin Fauntleroy, a naval aviator now serving as a weapons and tactics instructor. Serving with distinction in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, he has 1,450 total flight hours with 162 carrier arrested landings. Fauntleroy graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1997 with a degree in aerospace engineering.
U.S. Navy Lt. Daniel E. "Dan-o" McShane has been tapped as chief of staff. A distinguished aviator in his own right, he was recently selected to fly with the acclaimed Navy Blue Angels in the #8 position. McShane met James Bridenstine in 2001 when they became squadron mates and roommates on the USS Abraham Lincoln in various operations. He holds a master's degree in classical guitar and graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1999.
Rounding out the core team as marketing director is Michelle Bridenstine, who will also oversee the team's marketing internship program for university and college students. With wide-ranging marketing experience, she has promoted clients and managed accounts within firms such as Advo, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Witherspoon Advertising. She received a degree in journalism and public relations from the University of Oklahoma.
